Blumenauer Tours North Mississippi Ave for a Discussion with Small Business Owners
Earlier this month, Congressman Blumenauer went on a walking tour of North Mississippi Ave. The business district, a part of the 1992 Albina Community plan adopted by the Portland City Council when Congressman Blumenauer served as Portland’s Commissioner of Public Works, has evolved into a vibrant neighborhood with its own style and character. For Blumenauer, it is greatly rewarding to see how the Albina Community Plan is coming to fruition, laying the groundwork for North Mississippi to become one of the most dynamic examples of neighborhood revitalization in the City. The influx of new businesses along this previously forlorn street demonstrates the impact that new businesses can have in supporting existing merchants, spurring new residential development, and providing opportunities for the surrounding neighborhood to flourish.
Blumenauer stopped at several locations along the street, including The ReBuilding Center, Mississippi Studios, North Portland Bike Works, and the Albina Youth Opportunity School. He then met with several small business owners at Prost to discuss how current issues in Congress are affecting small business owners.

In almost four decades of public service, Earl Blumenauer's innovative accomplishments in transportation, planning, environmental programs and public participation have helped Portland, Oregon earn an international reputation as one of America's most livable cities.
