The Finalists (in random order)

Deborah Boone
HD 32 - Cannon Beach
2004: Boone (D) won with 49.9%
2002: Hopson (D) won with 52%

Meet Deborah Boone: Deborah was appointed to her seat in August 2004 and won the 2004 general election. She served on Health & Human Services, Budget and Transportation committees. When session ended, she was appointed to E-Board, Public Commission on the Oregon Legislature, Rural Policy Advisory Council, Emergency Preparedness, Seniors; and Business, Labor & Consumer Affairs Committee On Lower Columbia River Economic Development Committees.

Key issues: health care, public safety, jobs, education, agriculture and natural resources.

Why this campaign matters: House District 32 has re-elected Democrats since 1991 and Deborah is in good shape to win her re-election in November, ensuring a Democrat will remain in the seat.

Tobias Read
HD 27 - Beaverton
2004: Hass (D) won with 66.2%
2002: Hass (D) won with 99%

Meet Tobias Read: There was a time when Oregon was about innovation and collaboration – a time when we got the bottle bill and public beaches. Today, we have forgotten this approach. Tobias will work to bring us back to this time of creativity and progress.

Key issues: Tobias is most concerned about the current state of education funding, the rising costs of healthcare and prescription drugs, and how we will grow a sustainable economy for Oregon to prosper.

Why this campaign matters: This campaign will determine the direction Oregon will take for years to come and what we will give to the next generation of Oregonians.

Chris Edwards
HD 14 - Eugene
2004: Farr (R) won with 52.6%
2002: Farr (R) won with 53%

Meet Chris Edwards: Chris Edwards earned his degree in Business Administration from OSU and then spent eight years managing a small forest products company. A 5th generation Oregonian, Chris lives in Eugene with his wife, Ali and their son, Simon.

Key issues: Chris believes that it is time to get to work solving the real problems that face Oregonians: affordable health care, quality education, and reducing government waste.

Why this campaign matters: Chris represents one of Oregon's best chances for replacing a partisan Republican with an independent-minded Democrat. Chris Edwards will put his energy to work for all Oregonians in the legislature.

Rob Brading
HD 49 - Fairview
2004: Minnis (R) won with 53.1%
2002: Minnis (R) won with 60%

Meet Rob Brading: In 2004, Rob Brading realized that there is only so much good that can be done through civic participation and volunteer work. Believing that Oregon has been going in the wrong direction for too long, Rob threw his hat into the ring to run against Karen Minnis. With little more than a clipboard, he got 47% of the vote. He’s back to finish the job and put a representative in office that will work for real people, not special interests. His victory will replace the status quo with common sense priorities like affordable health care; quality schools; and open, honest government.

Betty Komp
HD 22 - Woodburn
2004: Komp (D) won with 55.3%
2002: Zauner (R) won with 50.3%

Key issues: Growing up poor with thirteen siblings, Betty Komp knows the value of a dollar. That's why Betty will work to reduce administrative costs so that school funding is spent in the classroom. Betty will also work to reduce government waste, and to lower prescription drug costs.

Why this campaign matters: Betty's campaign is important because she knows personally what it is like to grow up poor in her district, and she knows that it is easy to fall through the cracks. Betty will work to ensure more jobs and a better education system so fewer people have a chance to fall through those cracks.

Larry Galizio
HD 35 - Tigard
2004: Galizio (D) won with 48%
2002: Williams (R) won with 60%

Meet Larry Galizio: Let's cut to the chase, shall we? The biographical stuff is at the website.

Key issues: Oregon needs a skilled/educated workforce to compete in the global economy. That's why Galizio supports increased investment in public education – this includes higher education where Oregon's rank of 46th in state spending is unacceptable. Health care; finance restructuring; information security; & increasing Oregon's state trooper level represent his key issues.

Why this campaign matters: Larry Galizio is the first Democrat in over two decades to win in this highly competitive suburban swing district. In a 5-person race, Galizio won this seat in 2004 with 48% of the vote. We must defend this seat!

Brian Clem
HD 21 - Salem
2004: Dalto (R) won with 51.6%
2002: Dalto (R) won with 53%

Meet Brian Clem: Brian Clem has a proven record of public service. He is passionate about education, health care and restoring ethics in government. He is as Oregon as it gets.

Key issues: Education. Brian believes this is the key to Oregon's economic future and quality of life. Health care coverage is right behind. Emergency rooms should not be the doctor's office of the poor.

Why this campaign matters: This campaign is the first and best shot to stop the Republican punishment of Oregon. Period.

Jean Cowan
HD 10 - Newport
2004: Brown (R) won with 50.5%
2002: Brown (R) won with 51%

Meet Jean Cowan: Jean is a 3-term Lincoln County Commissioner and a former small-town mayor who understands that public service starts with community service.

Key issues: Jean is an expert on health care, with experience crafting policy at the county and state level, and implementing is locally—as an elected official and as a medical assistant and EMT. Jean will also work to reverse the trend that has closed six Lincoln County schools in six years.

Why this campaign matters: We can take back the House by replacing a Republican yes-man with a pro-choice woman. The road to a Democratic majority starts on the Central Coast.

Arnie Roblan
HD 9 - Coos Bay
2004: Roblan (D) won with 51%
2002: Verger (D) won with 75%

Meet Arnie Roblan: Arnie Roblan was a principal and teacher at Marshfield High School serving generations of South Coast families.

Key issues: Demanding a 'no-cuts' education budget which protects existing programs and provides enough funds to prevent schools from closing early. Arnie worked to protect local businesses to ensure family wage jobs stay in Oregon, while increasing access and affordability in health care.

Why this campaign matters: It is a chance for Oregon Democrats to show Wayne Scott that a man of honor and integrity belongs in Salem.
