"11,000 scientists say that the 'climate emergency' is here"

A quick update: Today, 11,000 scientists led by Dr. William Ripple and Christopher Wolf of Oregon State University joined me in calling for the U.S. to declare climate change a national emergency.

Two years ago, the group issued a "warning to humanity" to inspire bold climate action. This summer, I spoke with Dr. Ripple and explained the Climate Emergency Resolution I introduced this spring. He quickly agreed that his group should follow suit. Today, they published a paper upgrading the climate crisis to an emergency.

Like me, scientists are demanding bold, transformative action to reduce carbon emissions and reverse global warming before it's too late for humanity.

The scientists involved represent 153 countries and are the global leaders in the field. They have stated unambiguously that their research demands immediate action.

Time is running out.

Earlier this year, I was proud to be joined by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in calling for emergency action. Today, I'm honored that the global scientific community is stepping up to support our efforts as well.

Read more about Dr. Ripple and his colleagues' declaration and join the conversation on Facebook!

More soon,

Earl
